What is DTF (Direct-to-Film) Printing?

DTF printing is a modern method for transferring designs directly onto fabrics (like t-shirts, hoodies, bags, and more) with vibrant colors, excellent durability, and high detail. Unlike traditional methods like screen printing or vinyl, DTF allows for full-color designs, gradients, and complex graphics without limitations.

How the DTF Process Works

  1. Design Creation

    • You provide your artwork, logo, or design ideas.

    • Three Ink can help refine or create a custom digital design ready for printing.

  2. Printing on Film

    • The design is printed onto a special PET transfer film using DTF ink (water-based or pigment ink).

    • A white layer is printed under the design to ensure opacity and vibrant colors on any fabric color.

  3. Applying Adhesive Powder

    • While the ink is still wet, a special adhesive powder is applied to the printed film.

    • This powder sticks to the ink and will help bond the design to the fabric.

  4. Curing the Powder

    • The film passes through a curing process (usually a heat tunnel) to pre-fix the adhesive powder.

  5. Heat Transfer to Fabric

    • The film is placed onto the target fabric, and heat and pressure are applied using a heat press.

    • The design transfers permanently onto the fabric.

  6. Finished Product

    • The result is a soft, durable, and vibrant print that can withstand multiple washes without cracking or fading.
