What is DTF (Direct-to-Film) Printing?
DTF printing is a modern method for transferring designs directly onto fabrics (like t-shirts, hoodies, bags, and more) with vibrant colors, excellent durability, and high detail. Unlike traditional methods like screen printing or vinyl, DTF allows for full-color designs, gradients, and complex graphics without limitations.
How the DTF Process Works
Design Creation
You provide your artwork, logo, or design ideas.
Three Ink can help refine or create a custom digital design ready for printing.
Printing on Film
The design is printed onto a special PET transfer film using DTF ink (water-based or pigment ink).
A white layer is printed under the design to ensure opacity and vibrant colors on any fabric color.
Applying Adhesive Powder
While the ink is still wet, a special adhesive powder is applied to the printed film.
This powder sticks to the ink and will help bond the design to the fabric.
Curing the Powder
The film passes through a curing process (usually a heat tunnel) to pre-fix the adhesive powder.
Heat Transfer to Fabric
The film is placed onto the target fabric, and heat and pressure are applied using a heat press.
The design transfers permanently onto the fabric.
Finished Product
The result is a soft, durable, and vibrant print that can withstand multiple washes without cracking or fading.
